General Information For Sports OfficialsUpdatedWednesday September 2, 2015 byAnn Widner.
Referees, Umpires, Scorekeepers and Timekeepers that work St. Charles CYC District sporting events are considered independent contractors, not employees of the CYC, St. Charles District CYC or any Catholic parish.
The St. Charles CYC District provides referee/umpire training for each of these sports prior to the start of each sport season:
In order to be considered eligible to referee, umpire, time keep or score keep for any St. Charles District CYC sporting event; candidates are required to attend a pre-season training session for the sport that they are wishing to work in AND successfully complete a written exam regarding the rules of that sport.
Additionally, each prospective candidate must join the CYC-Sport Officials Association. Information regarding the CYC-SOA can be found on this web page under the Referees and Umpires heading. https://catholicyouthcouncilsportsofficialsassociation.sportssignup.com/site
Another Archdiocesan requirement for all adult (anyone age 18 or older and out of high school) officials is that they must be compliant with the Archdiocesan Safe Environment program requirements.
Referees, Umpires, Scorekeepers and Timekeepers are not scheduled by the St. Charles District, but rather by individual parishes to officiate the sporting events that take place at their facilities. Even with this being the case, officials at St. Charles CYC sporting events are representatives of the St. Charles District CYC when acting as an official.
For sport specific information regarding officiating, please check under that sport on our web site. (This part of our web site is under construction, so check back if nothing is there right now - posted on 3/27/15)
